What they don’t see is everything happening behind that moment of joy.

Follow along for a day inside Central Smith’s ice cream parlour; where the pace is fast, the scoops are precise, and no two hours ever feel the same.

From morning setup to the final scoop of the day, there’s never a dull moment when you’re serving ice cream.

 

Before the Windows Open: Prepping for Success

Before the first customer walks up, the parlour is already quietly in motion.

The team arrives and flips the space from “closed” to “ready for the day.” Dishes are put away, machines are checked, surfaces are cleaned, and everything is reset for service.

Then comes the moment that officially starts it all: the Open signs go out and the smiles turn on!

And just like that, the day begins.

 

The Rush

This is where preparation turns into performance.

When the line starts forming, everything moves quickly. At this point, the parlour becomes a very organized kind of controlled chaos.

Whether it’s a cone, sundae, frozen yogurt, or milkshake, the team prepares each order consistently and quickly. Every day is arm day when you’re scooping ice cream!

Orders are organized using small tickets called “chits,” helping keep everything moving smoothly.

 

The Little Things Add Up

Between rushes, the work doesn’t stop, it just changes form.

Cleaning happens constantly throughout the day. We won’t bore you by listing every job that gets done but just know that if cleaning were an Olympic sport, this team would bring home gold.

What makes our parlour a little different is that the customer experience is fully outdoors. That means that our team isn’t just serving ice cream, they’re also looking after the space itself. Garden beds are taken care of, picnic areas are maintained, and yes… even chalk art makes an appearance on sunny days!

It’s part maintenance, part hospitality, part creativity. And customers notice.

 

More Than Just Scooping Ice Cream

What surprises most people isn’t the ice cream, it’s the team.

A summer in the parlour is fast-paced, collaborative, and full of small in-between moments: quick jokes, shared rushes, and the occasional creation of a hilarious TikTok.

When the last scoop is served for the night, the day winds down but the work isn’t quite done.

The team restocks, deep cleans, and resets everything so it’s ready to go again tomorrow. It’s like nothing ever happened… except a lot of ice cream was very happily served.
