Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Repurpose!
If you’re an ice cream lover like me, you might go through a couple ice cream tubs a week and those tubs can add up! While our Central Smith tubs are 100% recyclable, you can always repurpose your tubs into something useful. Check out some tips below for how you can repurpose your tub at home:
-
Compost Bin
Use a 4 L tub for a compost bin you can keep on your counter. You can use your lid to keep the bin covered.
-
Food storage
Use a tub to store food items like flour or sugar. Multiple tubs stack neatly on top of one another to organize your pantry.
-
Small toy storage
Children can organize and store their smaller toys in a tub and decorate the outside to keep it fun and inviting.
-
Collections
Keep your collections organized by storing your items in tubs and labelling the outside so you can easily find them later!
-
Vegetable planters
Poke holes in the bottom of a 4 L or 11.4 L tub to make your own vegetable planters! Perfect for Summer!
-
Piggy bank
Make a slit in the lid of your tub and set a goal to fill the tub by the end of the Summer. You can use your savings to put towards more ice cream next year!
-
Pots
Decorate your tub with twine, plant, or anything you can find and create a pot for your plant!
-
Curling stones
Fill your 4 L with cement and place a handle on top to make your own curling stones!
-
Cement footings
Use your tubs to make cement footing in different sizes.
-
Sand storage
Use your tubs to store your sand for the Winter and use as needed.
-
Crafting storage
Use your empty tub for your craft supplies to organize a messy craft room.
-
Cleaning buckets
Fill up a tub with soap and water and use it to get some Spring cleaning done all year round!
-
Pet food storage
Keep pet food dry and more importantly sealed for any inquiring pets! Paint a paw print on the outside to decorate it for your little friend.
-
Herb garden
Use a 4 L tub to start a herb garden with fresh herbs you can use in your dishes! Your herb garden can be tended to all year long.
-
Yarn bowls
Poke a hole in the side of your tub and create a yarn bowl! With a lid on top, it keeps your yarn safe from little hands that like to unravel or pets that like to play with your yarn!
-
Ice blocks
In the Winter, make ice in your 4 L tubs to build an ice fort or an igloo if you’re really ambitious!
-
Self-watering planter
Make a self-watering planter using a 4 L tub and a planter pot. Fill the tub with water and your plant will absorb the water as needed. No more underwatering or overwatering your plants!
-
Fort building
You’ll have to save tubs for a while… or eat a lot more ice cream for this one! You can use the tubs to build a fort. The tubs are light and durable materials, perfect for kids that like to build forts (and then knock them down!)
-
Sandcastles
Use a 4 L or 11.4 L tub to fill with sand and water and create the tallest sandcastle on the beach!
If you do decide to recycle your Central Smith tub, remember to wash out your tub to ensure your tub can be recycled, reduces risk of contamination, and reduces waste during the recycling process.
